He gave a nod in return, tight smile across his face. He wouldn’t able to use the Ring to further any of his plans; by the sounds of it, it was rather conditioned to the nature of a Cupid, but if he helped her to work out how to use it, well, it could be useful. Who knew, really?
“It must be tiring, sometimes, hearing everyone else’s thoughts,” he said. Then frowned, thinking. “I … think I heard mention of a …” he trailed off, staring at a shelf. “Just a moment.” He jumped up, walking briskely over, and searching. After a few minutes, he found what he was looking for, and brought an old tome back to the table. He flicked through it with haste. “There was mention, in the New Magical Scientist, about how these older potion creators had cracked a lot of what we study today… It just might…” he trailed off, continuing to search.
She shook her head. “Oh no, not really. I’m pretty lucky. I don’t hear their thoughts, I just… feel whatever they are. People often get telepathy and empathy crossed over. And trust me, telepathy is worse.” She laughed, remembering the time she’d tried a spell in the Book and had ended up hearing everyones thoughts for 24 hours.
She twisted the Ring around her finger as she waited, and leant over to look at the tome. “Wow, this library has some different stuff to Magic School. I couldn’t find much on my type of magic back there.” She was curious to see whether they’d find anything or not. “Thanks for this.”
“Weirdsisters is an old college, they never fling out research papers,” Hobbes gave a shrug. He flicked through the book, pausing at a likely looking page. “Print’s nearly faded,” he scowled and leant in closer, squinting a little. “It’s a potion,” he said, then looked at the list of ingrediants, causing his eyebrows to rise a little. “Not one I’ve encountered before. Where would you get half of these?”
Curious as to what was in the list of ingredients, she leant over and turned the book around. “Let me see.” She squinted at the page, just making out some of the words. “I have some of these in stock… the others, I might be able to get at Magic School. I don’t think they’d mind me dropping in.” She flashed him a warm smile.
